Erickson Saye in the Final Push

By Julius Cochran, President, BPA

August 12, 2025, before voters in District 34B head to the polls. It is with immense pride—and gratitude—that I reflect on the extraordinary grassroots campaign led by Erickson Saye, whose tireless energy and genuine connection to this community are nothing short of inspiring.

Erickson Saye hasn’t just run a campaign; he’s rolled up his sleeves and engaged community with authenticity and purpose. Whether knocking on doors, hosting neighborhood conversations, or mobilizing volunteers across our diverse communities, his message has been clear: people-powered democracy works when leaders listen, act, and empower.

A respected insider delegate who witnessed the DFL convention last month shared a perspective I wholeheartedly echo: “Erickson emerged as the strongest voice in that debate—laser-focused, issue-savvy, and with the clearest vision for our district.” That same delegation, though deeply impressed, was unable to put an official stamp of endorsement.

Instead, the DFL party-endorsed Xp Lee who secured the nod—largely buoyed by the presence of several sitting house representatives offering their support. Observers privately acknowledged what felt all too familiar: a bit of an “inside-the-room” conglomeration of influence.

Yet here’s the truth we champion: thirty-some delegates in a convention hall do not define grassroots momentum. The power lies with the voters—and Erickson’s campaign has embodied that truth every step of the way.

Regardless of tonight’s outcome, what matters most is the precedent: a campaign rooted deeply in community can—and does—deliver. As many of us hold our breath in these final moments, we stand with Erickson Saye, knowing this effort transcends an endorsement. It stands for representation that is earned—door by door, voice by voice.
